Robot

Date:June 6, 2012
For the tool that i was trying to use it on, it had a lot of errors that we couldnt resolve and was unable to determine whether it was due to the way the script was created or if it was software. But it was years ago, so maybe it has improved now.

Great in applicaton availability monitoring

Date:December 19, 2011
I have used Rational Robot for application availability monitoring for years. And I must say that this product is powerful when my kind of use is the case.
Ability to do complex tests and dynamic responses to situations with manually created test code is very good thing. If you have problems with sqa-basic you can call any language based script when needed during test phase. Allthough this needs quite a lot practise to handle all the benefits of the product.
Pros: Automates application vulnerability testing, Cuts risk and cost, cuts downtimes in error situations

Robot is appropriately being EOLd

Date:June 7, 2011
Robot was an integral part of our testing efforts, but was also a major pain point with its visual basic-based language, clunky interface, and poor reporting. Rational Functional Tester (RFT) is a preferable choice now that there is an alternative to Robot for GUI-based testing. One of the benefits that we actually did enjoy was the flexibility of use with object comparators, but overall, Robot was an archaic tool. If you are looking for a GUI-testing tool from IBM, go with RFT.
Pros: more flexible with c++ clients

Great except for .net

Date:June 8, 2010
Using this product for testing new versions of applications and everything is great until we run applications that use the .net frameworks. Our test machines lock up and the testing stalls at that point. Also difficult to use with Delphi written applications, but I think I'm an exception to the rule for this one.
Pros: Speeds time to market, frees tester to do other work

Rational Robot

Date:June 8, 2010
This product was easy to use after using RFT for many years, but many features of the tool are out dated and crash many times a day on simple applications. The main feature that crashes is Inspector and occurs many times in a day, which is very frustrating. This product needs to be updated to handle browser upgrades and the inconsistency of it's tools.

Simple yet functional

Date:June 8, 2010
Rational Robot is an excellent tool for a new tester to get his/her feet wet with automation. The basic features are easy to use and the ability to include custom code allows deeper customization for advanced users. Its to bad support and innovation for this tool has decreased, it now lags behind the newer tools.
